Give Your Pet Protection

February 25th, 2008

Just because you don’t want the mess of a pet in the house doesn’t mean you have to feel guilty about “condemning” your dog to the outdoors. There are plenty of ways to assure the comfort and safety of your dog outside, even amidst harsh elements, including the purchase of an insulated wood dog house. While typical wood dog houses are great places for dogs to live in general, they don’t provide the same protection as an insulated cedar dog house and cannot battle the elements as well as your house can.

In order to maintain the ultimate comfort levels for your dog, you’ve probably already provided him with a bed and blankets to curl up in when he sleeps in his current dog shelter. However, this can only help hold in so much body heat for your pet if you are still using a plastic house or a standard wood house. You should first think about insulated dog houses. This will work the same way that the insulation in your home does to help reduce unnecessary energy usage and costs. However, it is even more important in wooden dog houses, because dogs have no central air or heat and needs the insulation to keep body heat in during harsh winters and the heat of a burning summer from getting in.

Insulated cedar dog houses are the best way to go, though, for complete protection for your dog against harsh elements. Cedar is naturally weather resistant, so the rain and snow will roll right off the dog house rather than seeping into the wood or between cracks to make your dog uncomfortable or wet. It doesn’t have to be treated, so you save time and work on the wood. Cedar is also a great material to decorate easily, since you can stain or paint it to match your home or your other garden décor.

With an insulated wooden dog houses, you’ll be able to ensure your dog’s protection year round from all the harsh elements that can make living outdoors difficult for him and worrisome for you. He’ll make himself comfortable in the space and build his own little home inside the wood doghouse, bringing you relief and your dog protection for the rest of his life, allowing you to feel that you aren’t condemning your dog out to battle the elements on his own.

Patio Furniture – Great New Ideas for Your Outdoor Furniture

December 21st, 2007

Are you tired of the same old look in your home and garden and are looking for fresh ideas and ways to update your outdoor patio furniture? If so, you probably aren’t thinking about going and purchasing one of those standard patio sets you see displayed at the nearest home improvement store. You want something unique to beautify your patio and garden. With a little creativity and a single intriguing piece around which to build your design, you can have an amazingly individual design for your garden.

The key to a unique design is to have a single, interesting centerpiece for your entire patio around which you build a showcase, focusing on the style and excitement of that one piece. You can do this with things like rope hammocks, which call attention to themselves as a center of relaxation. Around such devices, you’d want to build some sort of vacation theme, as though your entire garden was a getaway in which you can relax for a week uninterrupted. If you prefer, you can also use hammock swings in this manner, using a pair of them to create the center of attention for your garden design.

You may also consider a certain style for your garden patio furniture. For example, teak patio furniture can make a great center of décor in the middle of a garden, making it feel as though you are relaxing in an oasis in the middle of the concrete desert that the city creates. You can use the rustic look of teak tables and teak chairs to take you back in time to an era when the land wasn’t so settled and your garden could take up acres and acres of undiscovered and undeveloped territory, keeping the unkempt land completely out of view.

If you have a true porch overlooking your yard rather than a simple flat patio, you could join the many people decorating with outdoor rocking chairs, reminiscent of the look of homes in the south at the turn of the 20th century, where southern belles sat, waving their fans to keep cool during the summer as they overlooked and admired their own gardens. Antique rocking chairs can be an amazing centerpiece for your outdoor furniture, making a great talking point and offering one of the best rocking mechanisms ever produced for relaxation.

Obviously, there are a number of places to start when deciding to update your outdoor furniture and make it more exciting and unique for you. It’s simply a matter of taste as to what major piece you decide to start at, what you are most comfortable with, and what your overall style preference is.

Choosing the Right Furniture for Your Deck

December 21st, 2007

After a long and arduous process, you’ve completed construction on your deck and now you’re faced with the task of furnishing and decorating the area. You’re tired and not thrilled with the thought of spending a long time shopping for patio sets, and you would rather have some suggestions thrown at you for what sort of outdoor furniture would best grace the area.

Depending on how adamant you are about expressing yourself, there are a number of options from among which you can choose. How creative do you want to be? You could settle for something simple, like wicker outdoor furniture, and just buy a typical set of chairs and table, perhaps with an umbrella to shade you from the sun. However, after all the work you’ve done to create such a unique place to relax, it would be a shame not to continue the theme with something more individual. Adirondack chairs are easy to find and, while not exactly unique, add a certain style to your deck. You can also choose different colors that will make them less uniform. You can also get special chairs that are less common, such as dual seats or glider Adirondacks. There are even recliners that can be used for laying out and tanning.

You can also choose some outdoor deck furniture that is less common, consider something like chair hammocks, which used to be quite popular in the 1970’s and 1980’s but not frequently seen as part of a more modern style. This makes them interesting and unique while offering a great deal of comfort at the same time. Best of all, you don’t need as much space or any trees to hang these from as you would with a regular hammock. Glider rocking chairs are also great choices for something less ordinary to grace your deck.

If you are looking for something classy that shows your knowledge of wood products and your ability to afford imported items, teak furniture is the way to go. In fact, if you’ve built your deck with teak, it’s almost a given that this is the right design for you. Durable, weatherproof, and long-lasting, this hard wood is typically imported from Southeast Asia and has become popular for outdoor use, though the price can be somewhat prohibitive. Something slightly less costly that will still be impressive is aspen log furniture, not something commonly seen in decorating patios or decks but beautiful in color and style.

As you furnish your deck, don’t forget the lawn and garden décor that is going to dress it up. Small statues and other accent pieces are great, and decorative bird feeders make your deck complete, turning it into a home for you and your feathered friends. It’s the little things that bring together the entire design, deck and furnishings.
